Peter Rüchel 1937-2019

Selbst Musiker war er, soweit ich weiß, nicht, aber in der Musiklandschaft Deutschlands hat er als Erfinder der "Rockpalast"-Nächte Spuren hinterlassen. Gestern ist Peter Rüchel im Alter von 82 Jahren nach schwerer Krankheit verstorben.
Im Ausland hat damals keiner geglaubt, dass es eine solche Sendung tatsächlich geben könnte. Rüchels Erinnerungen an den "Rockpalast" gibt es auch als Buch, zusammen mit anderen Autoren. Nicht übermäßig interessant, aber wenn man es irgendwo im Ramsch oder gebraucht findet, sollte man es nicht liegenlassen, es sind viele schöne Fotos darin. Die Story hinter dem katastrophalen Jefferson-Starship-Konzert in Hamburg steht leider nicht drin. Die hat mir Rüchel mal am Telefon erzählt.

He was not a musician himself, as far as I know, but he left a big trace in Germany's music landscape as the inventor of the "Rockpalast" nights -- rock concerts live in full length on TV with stereo sound on the radio. Yesterday Peter Rüchel passed away after long sickness.

In the U.S. and England, nobody would believe that such a TV show could really exist. They had to see it a couple of times to get it. His memories on "Rockpalast" are also available as book. It's not too interesting, but it has lots of nice photos, so get it, when you see it somewhere as a second hand copy. Not included is the story behind the desastrous Jefferson Starship concert in Hamburg that has never been aired -- something he once told me on the phone.
